Hand-turned bowl and matching lid by folk artist and craftsman Holt Palmer, Jr. of Mable, NC
Holt Palmer was born in Cherokee, NC on May 16, 1936. He worked at Mundy’s Lumber and Veneer Company in Murphy, NC for 41 years, where he was a timber procurator. In his retirement, he became an avid artist in wood turning. Palmer was a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual Co-Op, and the Tomotla Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
This bowl is made with Spalted Maple wood, very likely sourced in the mountains of North Carolina. Ambrosia is also evident.
