Janet Bolick Calhoun is a 6th-generation potter who operates Traditions Pottery in Blowing Rock, NC with her husband, Michael Calhoun.
Janet is the daughter of Glenn Bolick and Lula Owens Bolick, who established the now well-known Bolick Family Pottery in Blowing Rock in 1973. Janet’s mother, Lula, is the daughter of prominent Seagrove, NC potter M.L. Owens and descendant. Janet’s great-grandfather was James Henry (J.H.) Owen (1866–1923), a master potter who established his shop in 1910 on the site where Original Owens Pottery still stands. Her great-great-grandfather was Benjamin Franklin “Frank” Owen (1848–1917), one of North Carolina folk pottery’s patriarchs, known for traditional utilitarian ware.

White lower bodies decorated with a warm green glaze effect flowing down from the rim. Both pieces are signed “JB Calhoun, Traditions” on the underside.
