A beautiful and collectible piece of vintage North Carolina redware pottery by folk artist Melvin Lee Owens
M.L. Owens (1917–2003) was a legendary North Carolina folk potter based in Seagrove, and known as a patriarch of potters in the region. He ran Original Owens Pottery from the 1930s, specializing in functional red-glazed stoneware, face jugs, and traditional forms, often working from a rustic clay-floor barn.
Made in Seagrove in 1991, this attractive and functional ceramic dish features elegant hand-painted flowers in the center and ruffled edges.
Signed and dated on the underside: “ML Owens 91′”
Good pre-owned condition. Has kiln chips and light wear on the bottom. One chip on one of the upper-facing ruffles. Please see photos for details.
