Handmade & signed vintage ceramic redware mug made by Michael Calhoun in Blowing Rock, NC in 1993

Michael Calhoun is a renowned North Carolina potter who, along with his wife Janet Bolick Calhoun, established Traditions Pottery in 1992 in Blowing Rock, NC.  Through this union, Michael Calhoun married into the Owens & Bolick pottery families. His wife Janet is the daughter of Glenn Bolick and Lula Owens Bolick, and a descendant of the prominent Seagrove pottery patriarch James Henry Owen, born in 1866. Together, they have continued a prominent & rich, multi-generational pottery tradition.

Michael & Janet’s pottery is made from clay processed through an antique brick mill, using self-developed, food-safe glazes.

A beautiful drip-glazed North Carolina coffee / tea / cappuccino mug. White lower body decorated with bright blue glaze effect flowing down from the rim, and an elegant looped handle.
