Handmade and signed 6″ redware rebecca pitcher by North Carolina folk artist and potter Nell Cole Graves

Nell Cole Graves (1908–1997) is the daughter of Jacon Bewit Cole, the founder of J.B. Cole Pottery near Seagrove, through which two centuries of Cole potters persisted in region. Graves’ father taught her to throw on a treadle wheel from age 9, and Graves eventually came to run the family business.

This classic Rebecca pitcher is a traditional shape and style commonly used today as a flower vase, but has multiple functional applications in the home or kitchen. This piece features a beautiful light blue glaze with natural speckles and the tall, elegant handle that characterizes most Rebecca pitchers.
