Signed 10″ Vicki Miller Heart Eyes Face Jug – South Carolina Folk Art Pottery

$195

Large handmade and signed face jug by South Carolina folk art potter Vicki Miller

This beautiful piece of decorative and functional ceramic art is an excellent modern twist and lively example of the historic face jug tradition in southern pottery. It features a large round face in blue glaze, with bright red three-dimensional hearts: one for each eye and one for the mouth.

This piece seems to hint at the collision between southern folk art and the broader art world of the 20th and 21st centuries, exuding a strong pop art aura.

Face jugs have been a signature form of Carolina folk pottery since the 1800s.

Vicki Miller was born in Augusta, GA and took up art at a young age, but honed her craft as a self-taught artist living and working in the mountains of North Carolina. Miller later relocated to Aiken, SC where she established her current pottery studio. In South Carolina, Miller continues to advance her striking sculptural forms, styles, and glazes.

Every piece of Vicki Miller’s pottery is crafted with great attention to detail. Her work is broad and incorporates a wide variety of forms, including vases, functional ware, face jugs, and folk art figurines. Her artisan-level skill and knowledge of glaze development have allowed her to formulate signature glazes that are uniquely her own.
