Beautiful vintage handmade and signed 3.5″ jar by North Carolina folk potter Linda Potts
Linda Potts belongs to one of the most prestigious pottery lineages in North Carolina, tracing her roots back nine generations within the historic Cole family of potters. As part of this lineage, Linda began working at J.B. Cole Pottery as a young girl.
Her immediate family connections within the Seagrove pottery community include:
Mother: Virginia Shelton, a skilled potter from whom Linda learned the craft as a child
Great Aunt: Nell Cole Graves, a legendary figure in Seagrove history who was the first woman to turn pottery professionally in the area
Great Uncle: J.B. Cole, a famous figure in the pottery world whose work is widely collected and featured in museums at the highest level
She is recognized in the Seagrove community for her ability to “turn light as a feather,” a skill requiring years of mastery. Her work is often characterized by cobalt blue glazes and distinctive white wares. These unique handmade pieces blend traditional North Carolina folk pottery styles with subtle modern elements, making them highly collectible.
